“Did you see that daddy?” Michael enthused. “I hit a homer just like you did when you played. Mama told me all about it.”
“Yes you did my man!” He quickly put his son down. “But you better get back to your game.”
Michael ran off and the three friends found seats in the stands to watch the rest of the inning.
“You missing the game Jack? “Thomas asked, looking at his friend who suddenly seemed to be melancholy.
“No, haven’t missed it in years,” he mumbled. Strangely enough, he didn't even want to watch the game anymore, let alone play it.
“He missed Deb,” Vanessa piped up. “That’s why he didn’t try to go pro. He needed to stay close to home in case she came back.’
“Is that true Jack?” Thomas asked incredulous.
Jackson shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe, now that you mention it. Pitiful huh?” He shot a dirty look at his sister. Now he had even more crap to contend with. Old baggage was the worst.
Thomas shook his head. “Nah, we men do crazy things for women. Look at me, I went active duty, just to get away from Vanessa.”
Jackson chuckled. “And it almost killed you. At least my love for Deb didn’t risk my life.”
“Oh yeah?” Thomas smirked. “You gave up pro ball to stay home waiting for her and entered law enforcement instead. You've never risked your life, ever, right?" He chuckled. "I do believe I recall you telling me about a scar on one of the lower regions of your body from a gun wielding, deranged hiker.
“Point taken,” Jackson mumbled, blushing. That gun shot had hurt like hell and he hadn't been able to do anything but lay on his side for a week. Not to mention all of the teasing he got from fellow rangers and family alike.
Thomas zoned out for a bit and Vanessa and Jackson feared a flashback from the war, but soon he started to laugh. We’re both glutton's for punishment.”
“Well I know you are,” Jack stated. “You’re marrying my sister aren’t you?”
Vanessa’s hand snaked around behind Thomas and smacked her brother upside the head.
“Ouch, damn it Nessa, not so hard.”
“Wimp,” she mumbled.
They sat watching Michael play for a while and Jackson was more in awe of his son with every minute that passed. He really was a good player and would have a future in the game.
“He’s got great form,” Jack said.
“Just remember, it was his mama, the star softball player that showed him how to play,” Vanessa teased.
“She was being sought by scouts two years before anyone took a look at you Jack,” Thomas added. “She whipped your ass on the field.”
Jackson turned to them, shooting a dirty look their way, then he turned back to his son's game and smiled. “She taught him well,” he whispered.

One heart cannot remember. Another heart cannot forget. Both hearts reach toward something to grasp. For Sarah, it is her past. For Will, it is to bring that past back. The only thing standing squarely in their way — is their future. Each has promised their heart and life to another. But where happiness should be, instead are the dark billowing clouds of a storm of reckoning. The thunder of regret splits a horizon now raining down upon them in shards of shattered promises and unreachable memories. In Book One of this three-part saga, fate seemed it would not be denied, bringing Sarah and Will together in a turbulent world, uniting young hearts for the right reason: love. But — almost as if it has eyes — fate sees to it that no love that is meant to be is allowed to be, without it being tested to the passionate edges of chance. Accidents. Small ones are remembered and retold with a laugh. Useful ones are celebrated. But shattering ones — those are the ones that slip from the fingers of fate. The kinds that are followed by silence as it roars the sound of life changing. And it is this pounding drone that Sarah and Will — once inseparable — now hear when they listen to their hearts. After her accident, Sarah awakens in a hospital room and into a very different life. Will, accidentally buried by heavy timber when he heroically saves a fellow worker, is also delivered into his own unforeseen, disoriented new life. Destiny’s dust never settles. And nothing is clear when doubts appear. Sarah is betrothed to Adley, while Will is engaged to Margaret, yet both are still connected to each other by an indescribable draw seemingly groping out from the deepest reaches of fate. A fate that deliberately leaves the door of temptation cracked open, giving Will a yearning peek at the naked truth of Sarah, who reaches out with the same tortured passions. A fate that leaves both to fight the desperate desires of wanting what each knows they cannot have. A fate that dares them to ask, “What will happen if I finally feel you?”
Excerpt:
No words would come. The emotion flooding her body now was something completely new, yet so unbelievably familiar. It was as if she were under a spell. A wonderful, scary spell. She reached up to his shoulders and ran her hands to the back of his head. She gently weaved her fingers into his hair. Her robe opened slightly with the movement of her arms. It was time. Time to surrender.
He moved slowly toward her and stopped just above her waiting mouth. “Sarah,” he whispered, so quietly that she barely heard. “I’ve dreamt of this for so long. Please tell me I’m not dreaming, now.”
She ran her hands through his hair again, and shook her head. “Maybe, it is all a dream. If it is, I don’t want to wake up. Please,” she said, as tears filled her eyes, “please, kiss me.”

Synopsis:
Some say fate holds the cards. But what if love deals the hand? No love goes untested. Ever. Indeed, true love is left to prove itself. And that is exactly where fate steps in to play the game. For William and Sarah, that game begins with growing up, in the unspoiled mountains of Colorado. In a time and space as clear as the Rocky Mountain skies above, these young souls together learn about life, what matters most, what endures, what doesn’t, and about love. Innocent young love moves ever so surely toward lives they both can picture, lives spent loving each other in a place they know so well and cherish.
Will and Sarah are ecstatically swept away in the swells of new love. And it is in their rarefied bliss that they make the fragile promise of first love, a promise that fate will soon rock and pound into doubt, guilt, and epiphany.
Unexpected and unprepared, these young lovers are suddenly torn apart, first by distance, and then by the far greater pressures of temptation that test the very fidelity of their heart-held promise. No longer able to console each other, hold each other, touch each other, they face the inevitable decision: move on to other loves, or cling to the faith that they will someday be together, again.
Will and Sarah stare down an unknown path, sensing destiny will not wait long before it comes to take them. Wracked with doubt, they wonder if their love was real. Caged by guilt, they both feel tempted by others intent on stealing their hearts.
Fate plays hardest when love is tested. And Will and Sarah are no exception, letting go of their happy past to embrace hope for an uncharted future. Love plays hardest when fate tests. And so it is, even through their trials of the heart, Will and Sarah never really stop loving each other. Theirs is a love so real and pure that each just wants the other to find happiness, even if it's with another. But fate does not surrender so easily. Dealing blow upon blow, both Will and Sarah are each struck by jolting events that take them to the very edge of life, itself.
Sarah and Will hold tightly to their past, but steadfast promises begin to wane. Life continues, filled with romance, drama, and two souls yearning to understand the challenges brought with coming of age, and learning that fate is ultimately in control. What happens to love when life is on the line? Can they both relinquish control when love is on the line? Will fate even allow them to find out?
Jacelyn Rye is many things. She can be as alluring as the love that flows from her pen: pure, honest, simple. But then, like a storm that suddenly appears over the mountain, she can also have you running for shelter where there’s no place to hide. Like life, itself, Jacelyn delivers the hard with the soft, the pain with the joy, the instant with the forever. All of it, for a reason. And it’s there that one can best enter her life.
“I believe in signs, I believe everything happens for a reason,” she’ll tell you. If you know someone like that, you already know a primal piece of Jacelyn — a person who actually listens to the Universe because there, she knows she’ll find more than answers, she’ll find reasons. And those reasons give her insights about nature, and human nature, both of which she invites us to explore with her.
ABOUT JACELYN RYE |
“I believe in signs, I believe everything happens for a reason,” she’ll tell you. If you know someone like that, you already know a primal piece of Jacelyn — a person who actually listens to the Universe because there, she knows she’ll find more than answers, she’ll find reasons. And those reasons give her insights about nature, and human nature, both of which she invites us to explore with her.
Growing up in the blue sky country of Colorado doesn’t leave an impression, it becomes a lifeblood. For Jacelyn, the clarity of that truth flows through her stories, her characters and her inherent spirituality that somehow knows faith, in the end, triumphs over despair.
Through her storytelling — firmly stimulated by that early country life that taught her to always be prepared when venturing forth — Jacelyn’s uncanny ability to “see” what could happen takes readers into a crystal ball where the future’s many possible outcomes await in a swirl of incandescence, right down to the details of smell, touch, fear, love.
Because life also presents its possibilities in dreams, Jacelyn holds dear that open door. “My dreams mean a lot to me. I listen to them, solve problems in them, learn from them,” she confides. It figures, then, that when you read her stories, you’d best get ready for a trip with an original dream weaver.
And then, there’s serendipity. To know Jacelyn is to accept a dance with chance. She accepted one such chance when she moved from her beloved Colorado to an unknown life awaiting her in Southern California, where she lives today. “I knew another beautiful world was out there. I was ready for adventure,” she says, with the confidence that proves her faith is more than just words. “I moved from Colorado as soon as I graduated from college, thanks to a great job offer. The night after I received my job offer, I saw a commercial that said, ‘California, find yourself here.’ In that moment, I stopped debating the move and took it as a sign that my adventure would be found in California.”
As Jacelyn does so well, she shares those adventures in her writing. In her first book series, you’ll find Jacelyn’s experiences of this major life change play out in Sarah, who also moves from Colorado to California. “What I’ve seen and felt enable me to write realistically about how a Colorado mountain girl feels about living in California.”
In the quiet mornings, you’ll find Jacelyn savoring her coffee, outside. To her, it’s all about listening, breathing in, appreciating being here for another day. And of course, there’s time spent in the mountains, fishing, wading in creeks with the people she loves. Curiously, this girl who comes from the mile-high mountains, still fears the miles-deep ocean she frequently visits, but only to sink her toes in the hot sand and watch, in awe and respect, the thundering surf.
On any given day, be it in the mountains, at the beach, or on her terrace, Jacelyn is dreaming and writing, her way of sharing something meaningful with those who come to know her.
One thing is for sure, wherever she goes, wherever she’s been, Jacelyn is aware and thankful for the gifts around her. Indeed, although she does not get back to Colorado that often, she’s there in spirit, and in absolute detail, in a moment’s call. “The smells, the sound aspen leaves make when the wind asks them to dance, how tall pines gently sway back and forth against a backdrop of the bluest blue I’ve ever known.” That’s someone who takes it all in, who takes it all with her, and who offers it to everyone who opens her books.

DECEPTION IN DENALI - EXCERPT CHAPTER 2
Jackson had taken two steps up the sidewalk leading to the house when the front door burst open and a smiling dark haired boy ran out, stopping about four feet in front of him. Jackson couldn’t take his eyes off of the vision before him. It was like looking in a mirror possessed by the past; brown hair, green eyes and the same dimple that appeared with a simple smile. The resemblance was even more prevalent in person than in pictures.
“Daddy?” the little boy whispered excitedly.
Jack nodded and took a step toward his son. He bent down and the little boy flew into his arms. Picking him up, he hugged him tight. One minute he’d been a carefree, single, twenty-four year old Park Ranger living the good life and the next he was the father of a seven year old boy. It all just seemed so impossible, yet so right.
“I didn’t think you’d really come see me,” the little boy cried.
“I promised I would, and I will always keep my promises.”
Michael just nodded, his head then buried it in the crook of his father’s neck. “I’m so glad you’re here Daddy,” he whispered.
“I’ll never leave you now Mikey.” Jack carried him up to the house and knocked on the door. It swung open and when he saw Maryann, he had to keep himself from gasping in shock. The once beautiful, vital person he’d known was replaced by an overly thin, drawn woman who now looked well beyond her fifty-four years
“Welcome Jack,” she said struggling out of her recliner to hug him. Her voice sounded so tired and it made him realize just how gently he had to treat her. “Come sit down. Boy go get your daddy something to drink”.
“We’ve got iced tea or soda,” Michael proudly told his father when he was finally set on the floor.
“I’ll have some tea, my man.”
Maryann slowly led Jackson to the couch and asked him to sit. “You sure did grow into a handsome man,” she said in wonder, looking over his six foot one inch frame. “You and Michael favor each other greatly.”
“I noticed,” Jackson stated. “He has his mother’s eye shape and her lips too. The rest is all me. It still blows my mind that I helped to create him.”
“That’s what you get for taking my daughter to the lake on her birthday,” Maryann joked.
“Point taken,” Jackson replied with a smile. “After seeing Michael I can’t regret one moment of it.”
“I’m glad Jack. The less you regret in life, the happier you’ll be. I learned that the hard way.”
“I’m so sorry, Maryann.” Now that he’d seen her, the knowledge that this once vital woman would soon cease to exist slapped him in the face.
“Don’t be kiddo. Just find my daughter so I can say goodbye,” she whispered.
“I’ll do my best,” he promised. “But first I need to hear everything you know about her disappearance and the recent sightings. Are you up to it now or should we start tomorrow?”

DECEPTION IN DENALI - EXCERPT CHAPTER 1
A round of cake and champagne was in order, courtesy of the head waiter of course. It seemed that the further they got into their vacation the more there was to celebrate. But as always, family time had to end and the group was shooed out of the dining room so the crew could set up for late dining. Everyone went their separate ways, each choosing to spend their last night on the cruise in a special manner. Jack went to the ship’s library one last time, to talk to his son before meeting him the next day.
“Hey buddy!” Jackson said into the computer’s web camera.
“Hi dad! What time will you be here tomorrow?”
Jackson chuckled. “I’m not sure. I have to do a few things before I can come see you. But I would say I’ll be there before dinner time.” It wouldn’t be soon enough. He wanted nothing more than to meet his son.
“Okay,” Michael said with a sad note to his voice.
“Hey don’t worry little man. We’ll see each other real soon and I can’t wait.”
“Daddy?"
"Yeah Mikey?"
"I love grandma, but I really want a mama and a daddy.”
“I know,” Jack whispered, secretly cursing Deborah. “I’ll be there tomorrow and you’ll never be able to get rid of me.”
“I won’t want to. Can you marry mama so we can be a family?”
“We talked about this already, bud. I don’t know what will happen with your mama, but I’m going to find her so you can be with her again.”
The little boy ducked his head. “I know,” he whispered. “We’ll see what happens right?”
“Yep. Now you better get ready for bed. I’ll see you soon.”
“Okay,” he sighed deeply. “Bye daddy.”
"Bye son, I love you.”
After a two and a half hour ride to Anchorage, they hugged their family goodbye at the airport and headed to the car rental counter. Thomas and Vanessa headed to the hotel, probably to celebrate their love again, while Jackson took his own rental car to the hotel for a quick shower and a change of clothes before calling Maryann.
“Hello,” she answered in a shaky, scratchy voice.
“Hi Maryann, It’s Jack. Can I come see my son now?” His excitement almost bubbled over. He wanted to scream with joy, and fear.
“Absolutely, he can’t wait to see you. He’s really loved talking to you over the internet for the past week.”
“Give me the address so I can plug it into GPS and I’ll come right over.” His voice was shaking with excitement and wonder.

Maryann relayed the address as Jack walked out of the hotel and straight to the rental car. Five minutes after a stop at a big box store for a new toy, Jackson pulled up in front of a small cottage on a tree lined street.
This was it, he was about to change his life forever. He would exit the rental car and enter into a whole new world, a world where an almost eight year old boy was the most important thing in his life. He unlocked the driver’s side door and stepped out onto the curb. It was now or never.

A BRIDE FOR THE SHEIKH:
From the #1 bestselling author of The Desert Sheikh comes her latest emotional rollercoaster sheikh
romance!
When Sheikh Rashid is told by his father, the sultan, that he must marry the scheming daughter of his financial adviser, Chrystal Longhorn, the sheikh refuses. The sultan finally agrees to let his son choose his own bride, but on two conditions: she must be a foreigner, to prevent intermarriage with a local family, and she must be presented to the sultan as the sheikh's bride in just two weeks' time.
That evening Sheikh Rashid meets Angelina Smith, a beautiful young woman from England. The sheikh is immediately besotted with her. The attraction is mutual, but Angelina has just accepted a place at an exclusive law school in London. Will she throw away her hard-earned career dreams to become a Middle Eastern wife?
Being the royal wife of a billionaire sheikh is exactly what Chrystal Longhorn wants. What lengths will she go to in order to keep Sheikh Rashid and make sure he marries her and not Angelina?
Sheikh Rashid has only two weeks to persuade Angelina to marry him, or face a loveless marriage with Chrystal.
The clock is ticking...
EXCERPT:
“Maybe marriage is more than just a business contract?” Sheikh Rashid suggested.
“My son, I don’t regret sending you to college in England,” the sultan replied, referring to the three years that Rashid had spent studying Media Studies at Oxford Brookes University. “However, sometimes I wonder if you picked up a few silly notions while you were there.”
“If marriage is a business contract, then perhaps it’s open to negotiation?” Rashid said, trying a different approach. He knew that if he argued with his father and opposed him too strongly, the sultan would have him married off to the dreadful Chrystal Longhorn the very next morning.
“What type of negotiation?” the sultan asked, looking more amused than angry.
“What if I agree to marry a foreign woman, but I get to choose who it is?”
“You want to choose?”
“I would only choose someone who would be a suitable bride for a member of the royal family.”
“Naturally,” the sultan replied.
Rashid waited while his father thought about the idea. When his father began to smile at him, he knew he had a chance.
“If you can find a foreign woman, from a decent family, a woman who would be an asset to our own, then I agree,” his father said at last.
“Thank you!” Rashid was thrilled that he no longer had to marry the vile Chrystal. He bowed low to his father in gratitude.
“However, you must find her and present her to me within two weeks. If you don’t, I’ll start the arrangements for your wedding to Jack Longhorn’s daughter.”
“Two weeks? How can I find someone in just two weeks?”
“Those are my conditions. You either agree to them or I announce your engagement to Miss Longhorn today.”
“I agree,” Rashid replied, bowing again, but this time it was as if a weight was on his shoulders, forcing him down. How could he find someone in just two weeks? How could he find a suitable foreign bride in so short a time?
“You can go.” The sultan waved his hand to dismiss his son.
“But Father...”
“Go now, before I change my mind and make it just a week,” the sultan commanded.

AUTHOR BIO:
I'm a wife, teacher, author and mother of two boisterous boys, so most of my days are taken up with finding lost school shoes, getting stuck in traffic and wondering why I always join the queue that doesn't move in the supermarket. However, I try to forget these daily problems (and the fact that I burnt the toast again this morning) by losing myself in a good book and writing novels that give readers a break from everyday life.
Open one of my books and escape on an adventure to an exotic location, because it's easier to buy a book than it is to book an air ticket.
Have a break, read a book!
